Public Defender’s Office

Everyone has the right to legal counsel

The public defender’s office is lead by Amelia Knightly. She is supported by Ten public defender’s and Three paralegals. Together, the public defender’s office fights in defense of the people of Los Santos.

Know your rights

You have the right to remain silent.  Anything you say can and WILL be used against you in the court of law.  You have the right to an attorney.  If you can not afford an attorney one will be provided for you.

What to do in case of a police interaction?

1.) Cooperate with all police instructions and be respectful of the officers.

2.)Provide officers with your ID if requested.

3.) Invoke your rights by stating clearly "I wish to remain silent and speak with my lawyer." These are the only words you HAVE to speak while in custody.

4.) Make note of who is arresting you, what the charges are, and the time of arrest.

An officer may only legally arrest a citizen if:

1.) The officer witnesses a crime being committed.

2.) The officer has probable cause to believe a crime has been committed.

3.) The officer has a warrant for arrest.
